Systems of Sorcery-Spiritual Practice for Engineers, Computer Scientists and Other Rational Skeptics

Tuesday, Jun 25, 2019

6:00pm – 8:00pm

From the Ancient Greek Pythagoras to 20th century genius Nikola Tesla, the minds that have led our understanding of math and science have been fascinated with the occult and with the practice of magic. While Western thought has pulled away from its spiritual sibling, we nonetheless observe that the logical and rational principles that govern our computerized and electronic world are the quintessential laws of Hermetic magic. In this course, we will take a rational systems approach to understanding the nature and practice of magic and the creator as the great programmer of the system. Students will learn:

The hows and whys of magical theory as derived from rational science

The Hermetic principles and their application in computer science and magic

The fundamentals of systems theory and their application in spiritual practice

Spells as Circuits – understanding magical components and circuit design

The Data Science of the Universal Computer – abstraction, recursion, and the logical tools used to empower human imagination and creativity

and more

Instructor-Brother Moses is a cultural anthropologist, folklorist, spiritual minister and professional reader and conjure worker based in Colorado.
He has been steeped in his family’s old world folk magic traditions since childhood, and has spent decades studying the religion, spirituality, and magical practices of humans across time and civilizations while staying grounded in contemporary urban spiritual practice.
Working primarily in folk magical traditions–which he terms “the magic of pragmatism”– Brother Moses approaches spiritual work from first principles and core metaphysics, examining magical techniques and technologies to distill essential frameworks and parameters for their operation. By comparing methods, paradigms, and approaches across cultures, he discovers often surprising unities and similarities in magical understanding and application across the world and the ages.
Concerned with plants and bones, spirits and folk saints, Psalms and prayers, lamps and candles, amulets and talismans, oils and incense, dolls, jars, bags, dirt, and the other magical tools of everyday life, his conjure is a concentrated blend of the proven traditions and practices of the ancestors who depended on them, and the spiritual and material sciences they observed and derived.
